Praying the Compass: A Camino Examination of the Heart
East (Dawn):
Context: Just as the sun rises in the east, it symbolizing Christ’s resurrection and the promise of new life, reflect on areas where the Lord might be inviting you to new beginnings.
Prompt: “Dear Lord, as I have lived the Camino journey, what areas of my life do you call me to initiate anew? Is there a relationship I need to mend, a habit I need to break, or a goal I need to revisit with fresh eyes? Grant me the clarity and perspective of the Holy Spirit to discern your will and embark on these new beginnings with faith and purpose.
South (Day):
Context: The south represents the abundant warmth of the sun, similar to God’s unwavering love and strength.
Prompt: “Dear Lord, our Good Shepherd as I draw strength from your love that sustains me, may I ponder on areas that are going well, where I am passionate about in my life? Help me to continue to enhance it, living it more gracefully, and use it while serving others with a renewed zeal?”
West (Dusk):
Context: Dusk is a time of letting go, just as Jesus let go of his earthly life for our salvation. Reflect on areas you need to relinquish to find peace.
Prompt: “Lord, on this journey of faith, what negativity or burdens do you ask me to release? Is it resentment, self-doubt, or a worldly attachment hindering my personal and spiritual growth? Help me surrender these things with trust, knowing that your grace is sufficient. Guide me towards the inner peace that comes from letting go and trusting in your plan.”
North (Night):
Context: The north wind is typically the coldest and harshest of all winds thus it represent challenges, but also God’s unwavering presence as our guiding help.
Prompt: “Almighty God, as I navigate the challenges of life, what areas need more fortitude and resilience? Grant me the wisdom to discern your will and the strength to overcome obstacles with faith. Remind me that I am not alone on this journey. I find strength in your presence, in the support of my Christian community, and in the lessons learned on the Camino. Help me navigate these challenges with unwavering faith and a grateful heart.”
