Bible&Beer is a space where we gather over food and drink to have honest conversations about the questions we often carry but rarely stop to face. The topics come from real experiences, struggles, and suggestions shared by participants in previous sessions, making each edition a conversation shaped by curiosity, tension, and the desire to understand life more deeply.

The name Bible&Beer captures the spirit of the event: bringing faith into conversation with real life. While the two words may seem unexpected together, they reflect our aim to explore how faith can speak into the societal, ethical, and personal issues we encounter every day.

This edition under the theme Busy but Empty, will explore the tension between busyness and purpose. In a world that constantly pushes us to do more, achieve more, and become more, are we still making time to ask what truly matters? Or have we become so distracted by activity that we no longer know what we are looking for?

We will also reflect on the expectations placed on us by family, culture, and society. Do they help us find our place, or slowly shape us into someone we never chose to become? And is choosing our own path one of the bravest things we can do?

A panel of experts will join us to help unpack the theme from different perspectives and guide the conversation throughout the evening.

Organized by MSSP Oratory Youth, this event is open to youth aged 18 to 35. If you are curious, unsettled, questioning, or simply interested in a meaningful conversation over food and drink, you are very welcome.

To help cover costs, we ask for a €15 donation, which includes food and drink. Alcohol will be served.

MEET THE PANELISTS

Fr Giovann Tabone is a member of the Missionary Society of St Paul (MSSP). His ministry mainly evolves around the youngest of children, adolescents, youth and young adults, as he currently serves as College Chaplain at St Paul’s Missionary College and Youth Coordinator for the MSSP in Malta. At the heart of all this, is his ministry with the MSSP Oratory Youth which is centred around accompanying young people through the realities and pressures of modern life, helping them navigate questions of identity, purpose, relationships, faith, and mental wellbeing in a world that rarely slows down.

Through the various elements of his ministry, he helps create spaces of belonging, honest conversation, and personal growth for the young from different walks of life. Alongside larger youth initiatives and community formation, a significant part of his ministry takes place in one to one accompaniment, walking closely with individuals through moments of struggle, discernment, burnout, and searching. Through this pastoral experience, he has become deeply aware of both the richness and the dangers of the culture of busyness that shapes and influences so many lives today.

Jon Mallia is a storyteller, filmmaker, podcaster, and one of Malta’s most recognisable media voices. Through his work across television, digital media, and long form conversations, he has built a reputation for speaking openly about the realities people often struggle to name, from mental health and relationships to ambition, burnout, identity, and the pressures of modern life.

Known for his sharp observations and honest style, Jon has a particular ability to tap into the hidden tensions many people carry beneath busy schedules and constant connectivity. His work often explores what happens when productivity becomes identity, when silence becomes uncomfortable, and when people lose touch with themselves while trying to keep up with the pace of life around them.

Through platforms that reach thousands, especially young adults, Jon continues to create conversations that are raw, reflective, and deeply human, making him a fitting voice for a discussion on busyness and the search for balance, meaning, and presence today.

Between 2021 and 2023, she served as President of The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, helping guide the business community through major economic and social challenges following the pandemic. Throughout her career, she has consistently emphasised the importance of sustainability, long term vision, capable leadership, and healthy workplace cultures in an increasingly demanding world.

With extensive experience balancing leadership, public responsibility, business pressures, and family life, Marisa brings a grounded and thoughtful perspective to the conversation around busyness, productivity, ambition, and what it means to live well in a culture that often struggles to slow down.
